Verde Maritaca
Description of colouring and granulometry: relatively uniform granite of a greenish-grey to dark olive grey colour with greenish-grey streaks and shading. This rock is originally made up of a lightcoloured stone which, during the chemical transformations of its composition (metasomatism), turns a deep green colour. The hornblende and pyroxene are also transformed into dark green chlorite, resulting in the original granular structure being lost. From a mineralogical point of view, this stone is made up of feldspar, orthoclase and plagioclase (coloured green by small quantities of chlorite), ransparent grey quartz, green chlorite and very small amounts of biotite and magnetite. It is quarried near the little town of Minas Gerais. Prevailing applications: interior and exterior. Wall cladding, flooring, slab works. Availability: medium. Finitions-textures: smooth, polish, flamed, impact. Physical and mechanical properties: volumetric weight: 2670-2671 kg/m3; absorption coefficient: 0.13%; apparent porosity: 0.4-2.0%; compression breaking load: 2183kg/cm2; bending strength: 139 kg/cm2; coefficient of thermal expansion: 0.5-0.8 mm/mx100°C; shock resistance: 60 cm; wear from abrasion according to Boehme: 4-10 cm3/50cm2; Mohs hardness: >5. -------------------- Description from TRE Collection: materials, manufacturing and uses ANNUAL STONE by Beatrice Zoppas |
