Giallo Fiorito granite
Description of colouring and granulometry: coarse-grained and homogeneous granite of an ochre-yellow colour, often mistaken for Venetian Yellow. The most noticeable element is the orthoclase-feldspar which measures up to 8 cm in size. The centre of the crystals is always lighter, ranging between ivory and beige-grey, while towards the outside it changes to a deep ochre-brown colour. For the most part this rock is scattered with black biotite and it contains large crystals. There are also smaller-grained quartz crystals of a light to transparent grey colour and biotite, which fills the empty spaces. The yellow colour of this light stone derives from the chemical disaggregation typical of tropical zones. It is quarried in the state of Minas Gerais. Availability: medium. Prevailing applications: interior and exterior. Wall cladding, flooring, slab works. Physical and mechanical properties: volumetric weight: 2566 kg/m3; apparent porosity: 0.4-1.5%; absorption coefficient: 0.18%; compression breaking load: 1546 kg/cm2; compression breaking load after gelivity: 1450 kg/cm2; bending strength: 93 kg/cm2; thermal expansion coefficient: 0.0076 mm/m°C; shock resistance: 10-12 nj; wear for abrasion according to Boehme: 5-8 cm3/50cm2; Mohs hardness: >5. -------------------- Description from TRE Collection: materials, manufacturing and uses ANNUAL STONE by Beatrice Zoppas |
