Blue Pearl granite
Description of colouring and granulometry: Blue Pearl is a plutonic, coarse-grained rock of a bluish grey to silver blue colour with a regular structure made up of 85% feldspar anorthoclase. Due to the atomized structure in parts and depending on the incident light and the direction from which it is observed, the individual crystals sparkle alternately with a light-blue colour. The anorthoclase possesses parallel layers of atom lattices. The unpolished cutting plane of the crystals lying oblique to the lattice allows the light to reflect at an oblique angle. With parallel cutting planes, the pearl-coloured blue sparkle is produced by the polished surfaces. The black biotite and the black-green pyroxene give this sienite an intense colour contrast. Sporadic metal minerals, which reach a size of up to 5 mm and are stored between the feldspar crystals, have a metallic grey sheen. It is quarried in Norway situated 100 km south from Oslo in the Porsgrunn-Larvik region. Production / availability: good. Other commercial names: Blue Pearl, Larvikite, Light Labrador. Finitions-textures: smooth, polish, flamed, clived. Prevailing applications: interior and exterior. Physical and mechanical properties: volumetric weight: 2680-2740 kg/m3; water absorption: 0.3 (weight %); compression breaking load: 1959-2520 kg/cm2; compression breaking load after gelivity: 1655-2286 kg/cm2; bending breaking load: 193-207 kg/cm2; thermal expansion coefficient: 0.0085 mm/m°C; elasticity modulus: 752000 kg/cm2; wear for abrasion according to Boehme: 5-8 cm3/50cm2; Mohs hardness: >5. -------------------- Description from TRE Collection: materials, manufacturing and uses ANNUAL STONE by Beatrice Zoppas |
